- Describe the remote pilot in command's responsibility.
- Describe what a visual observer does.
Under Part 107 the remote pilot in command is directly responsible for, and the final authority on, the operation (§107.19). A visual observer helps the crew see and avoid other aircraft and hazards and must be able to communicate effectively with the pilot (§107.33).
Program crews add roles that fit the mission: mission manager, payload operator, data manager, safety officer, equipment lead. A role is only real if its steps are written down and assigned to one named person.
